Tata Motors is currently on a brand transformation spree. The Indian automaker has set a target of becoming the third largest car manufacturer in the country by 2020. In order to do so, the company is constantly launching all new products in varied segments.
This started with the Tata Tiago in 2016, which managed to bring a significant amount of interest towards the manufacturer. It was then followed by multiple new Tata cars in 2017 and 2018, including the Tigor, Hexa, Nexon and Harrier. All these models have performed pretty well in their respective segments. In fact, the new launches have cumulatively boosted Tata Motors’ monthly sales figures by over 35% in the past one year. The company currently enjoys a 5.17% market share in the Indian passenger car market.
However, Tata Motors is aiming for a much larger market share in the future. As a result, there is a slew of new upcoming Tata cars that will be launched in India in the next couple of years. A majority of these new models will be based on the company’s latest IMPACT 2.0 design philosophy and will thus carry on the smart and trendy looks that are seen on the latest Tata products.
Tata cars always garner huge interest from Indian customers. And with products like the Tiago, Tigor, Hexa and Nexon, this customer interest has touched new heights. Hence, every new car buyer wants to know the list of upcoming cars from Tata Motors in the country, before making a final purchase decision.
We have thus compiled a comprehensive list of all new upcoming Tata cars that will be launched in 2019 and 2020.
Everyone in the automotive industry has slowly accepted the fact that electric cars are the future. However, very few mainstream companies in the Indian market are openly working towards electric mobility. Mahindra Electric is currently the only manufacturer that offers relatively affordable all-electric cars in India. However, Tata Motors is working hard to join this list with the introduction of a couple of electric versions of its existing models.
The first electric car from Tata Motors will be the Tigor electric. Tata has already started manufacturing the car and is supplying the same to the Indian Government. Once the tender is complete and the company is satisfied with the overall performance of the supplied models, the Tata Tigor Electric will be launched in the open market as well. We expect this to happen around mid-2018.
|Expected India Launch||Diwali 2019|
|Expected Price Range||Around Rs 10 lakh|
Soon after the launch of the Tigor electric, Tata Motors will also introduce an electric version of the Tiago. The Tiago and Tigor are mechanically identical, with the only change being the added boot in the Tigor. Hence, mating the Tigor electric’s powertrain to the Tiago won’t be a major hassle for Tata engineers. As a result, we expect Tata to launch the Tiago electric soon after the Tigor’s electric version.
Tata Motors’ UK-based R&D centre has already developed and showcased a mule of the Tiago electric. It is expected to offer a range of over 120 km on a single charge. It is likely to have a top speed of 125 km/h and will be a hoot to drive in the city, thanks to the absence of any manual gearbox and instant torque.
|Expected India Launch||Around Diwali 2019|
|Expected Price Range||Rs 8 lakh – Rs 10 lakh|
3. Tata Altroz (Codename: X451)
Tata Motors has long been working on a premium hatchback, which will rival the likes of the Maruti Baleno, Toyota Glanza, Honda Jazz and Volkswagen Polo. The company had unveiled the production-ready version, called the Tata Altroz, at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show earlier this year. As a result, we now know how this upcoming hatchback from Tata Motors will look like.
Not much is known about the official specifications of Tata Altroz hatchback yet. However, it is expected to be offered with four-cylinder petrol and diesel engine options, both of which will likely get manual as well as automatic gearbox choices.
|Expected India Launch||Early 2020|
|Expected Price Range||Rs 6 lakh – Rs 9 lakh|
4. Tata Buzzard SUV (Codename: Q502)
Tata Motors recently launched their new flagship product – the seven-seater Tata Hexa SUV. However, the company is also working on a completely new flagship SUV that will be placed a slot higher than the Hexa and will compete with the likes of the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour. Codenamed the Tata Q502, this new SUV will essentially be a 7-seater version of the Tata Harrier, which is already on sale in the country.
Expected to be called the Tata Buzzard, this new SUV was showcased at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. It shares its underpinnings with the Land Rover Discovery Sport. Land Rover, which is currently owned by Tata Motors, will also be playing a key role in the development of this new SUV.
Powering the Tata Buzzard premium SUV will likely be a Fiat-sourced 2.0-litre MultiJet diesel engine. This is the same powerhouse that does duty under the hood of the Jeep Compass. Tata is also expected to offer Land Rover’s multi-terrain modes with the Q502, thus adding a competitive edge over its rivals.
|Expected India Launch||Mid-2020|
|Expected Price Range||Rs 18 lakh – Rs 24 lakh|
5. Tata H2X SUV
Tata Motors showcased a micro-SUV concept, the H2X, at this year’s Geneva Motor Show. With the growing demand for SUVs in India over a large price range, it is highly likely that Tata will decide to bring this concept to production pretty soon. As a result, we expect to see Tata H2X production model launch in India by the end of next year.
The Tata H2X concept came with squared wheel arches, bulky plastic cladding, and big faux skid plates. However, the production version is expected to be a bit toned down in terms of styling. Engine options on offer will likely include a 1.2-litre turbo petrol and a 1.2-litre turbo diesel.
|Expected India Launch||End 2020|
|Expected Price Range||Rs 4.5 lakh – Rs 7 lakh|
