Tata Motors has silently added the Apple CarPlay functionality to the Tiago hatchback and Tigor compact sedan. The said feature is available only on the top spec XZ+ variant for both models. No price hike has been made after the feature addition.
It is worth noting that the Tiago XZ+ and Tigor XZ+ were already equipped with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system that features the Android Auto functionality. With the latest addition, the popular hatchback and compact sedan have been loaded with the most used phone connectivity features.
Android Auto and Apple CarPlay essentially are smartphone mirroring softwares for the named operating systems. They are used for mirroring the smartphone’s screen on the infotainment screen. As a result, both of them allow the driver to interact with his/her smartphone and its various apps, without the need to handle the phone. This helps in reducing distraction and enhancing driver concentration on the road.
It js worth noting that the Tiago competes with the likes of the recently updated Maruti WagonR and the freshly launched Hyundai Santro. Both these models come with similarly sized touchscreen displays with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay functionality. Similarly, the Tigor competes against the Maruti DZire, Ford Aspire, and Honda Amaze, all of which also offer similarly equipped infotainment systems. As a result, Tata’s decision to first add a new top-end XZ+ variant for the Tiago and Tigor with a large touchscreen system, and then add the two popular mobile connectivity features comes as no surprise.
