Tata Nexon XM(S) is now the cheapest car with sunroof in India

Tata Motors has added a new trim to its Nexon lineup. Called the Nexon XM(S), this new trim is placed just above the XM trim. It gets a few additional features, biggest of which is an electronic sunroof. It is being offered with both diesel and petrol engines as well as both manual and automatic gearbox options. The AT variant is named the Nexon XMA(S), inline with the company’s variant-naming convention.

The Nexon XM(S) is priced from Rs. 8.37 lakh to Rs. 10.30 lakh. It is thus now the most affordable car on offer in India with an electronic sunroof option. The newly refreshed Honda Jazz ZX, priced at Rs. 8.74 lakh, is the only hatchback available in India with a sunroof.

What is the price difference between the Nexon XM and Nexon XM(S)?

As shown in the price table above, the Nexon XM(S) is priced at a premium of around Rs. 52,000 over the regular XM trim, both for petrol and diesel engine options. Meanwhile, the automatic XMA(S) trim is costlier by Rs. 50,000 as compared to the XM trim.

Meanwhile, the XM(S) trims are cheaper than the more heavily loaded XZ trim by around Rs. 48,000. However, it is worth noting that the XZ trim doesn’t get the Sunroof. Tata is offering the electronic sunroof only with the XM(S) and XZ+(S) trims of the Nexon.

What added features does the Tata Nexon XMA(S) get?
Following are the list of features that are available on the XM(S) trim, over the XM trim:
– Electronic sunroof
– Automatic headlights
– Rain-sensing wipers
– Steering mounted controls

Additionally, the compact SUV continues to come with dual-front airbags, ABS, EBD, hill-hold assist, ESP, and ISOFIX child seat mounts. Also on offer are LED DRLs with projector headlamps, an 8-speaker audio system with Bluetooth connectivity, and multi drive modes.

Why has Tata launched the Nexon XM(S)?
The sudden launch of the XM(S) trim of the Tata Nexon appears to be the company’s proactive response to the upcoming launch if the Kia Sonet. The Sonet brings with it some segment-first features and promises to make a big impact in the Indian compact SUV segment. In order to steal some thunder away from the Sonet, Tata motors have smartly provided a feature that was till now available only with the top-spec variants of compact SUVs.

If you are a person who wants your next car to have a sunroof but are on a tight budget, it makes perfect sense for you to consider the Nexon XM(S). To give some context on how well this new variant of Tata Nexon with the sunroof is placed, let us tell you the price difference between the Nexon XM(S) and some other Compact SUV variants that come with a sunroof.

While we do believe that Tata should have offered more useful features like a touchscreen infotainment system with reverse parking camera rather than automatic headlights and wipers, the XM(S) is still the most VFM variant of the Tata Nexon.
