Tata Altroz India unveiling in Dec 2019

Tata Motors is expected to unveil the Altroz premium hatchback in the Indian market sometime in December 2019. The Altroz will be Tata’s competitor to the likes of the Maruti Baleno, Hyundai Elite i20 and Honda Jazz.

Tata had first revealed its premium hatchback aspirations during the unveil of the 45X concept at the 2018 Auto Expo. It then showcased a pre-production prototype at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. However, in December 2019, it will be the first time that we will get to see the production-spec Tata Altroz.

The Altroz is built on the company’s ALFA platform. ALFA stands for Agile, Light, Flexible and Advanced. It follows the new Impact 2.0 design philosophy. From what we have seen so far in the pre-production model and spy shots, the Tata Altroz comes with a smiling front grille, wraparound headlamps with large fog lamps placed just under them, a curved rear end, and some mild character lines flowing through the side profile. On the inside, the hatchback is expected to come with an all black dashboard, a free standing 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a digital instrument cluster.

Powering the Tata Altroz will likely be 3 BS6 compliant engine options. This includes 1.2-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine from the Tiago, a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder turbo petrol from the Nexon and a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder turbo diesel from the Nexon. Initially, the Altroz is likely to launch with just a 5-speed manual gearbox, while an automatic will be introduced sometime later next year.

India launch of the Tata Altroz is slated for early 2020, with prices ranging from Rs. 5 – 8 lakh (ex-showroom). At this price, Tata will try to undercut all its chief rivals and thus offer a more VFM prospect to customers.
