Maruti Suzuki is reportedly working on a new engine option for the Ertiga MPV, which will be launched in the near future. The power plant in question is the company’s latest 1.5-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged engine. This information has been leaked via a confidential source of leading Automotive Forum – Team-BHP. The manufacturer is thus yet to make any official confirmation of the same.
Maruti has been working on an ingeniously developed 1.5-litre diesel engine for quite some time. This block is said to be compliant with the upcoming BS-VI emission norms. We expect the block to develop close to
94 BHP @ 4,000 rpm and 225 Nm of torque @ 1,500-2,500 rpm. The said engine is likely to come with an all-new 6-speed manual gearbox. With the larger engine, the Ertiga diesel will weigh around 1,220-1,225 kg.
According to media reports, Maruti Suzuki has already submitted all required documents at local RTOs to get permission for registration. This points to the manufacturer planning to add the larger diesel engine option fairly soon.
It is also important to note that the Ertiga won’t be the only Maruti Suzuki product to get the new diesel engine. The Maruti Ciaz and Maruti S-Cross are also likely to get the larger engine at a later point of time.
