Mahindra XUV 300 Electric to offer over 300km drive range

Mahindra & Mahindra were one of the first Indian automotive manufacturers to actively invest in electric mobility, through their Mahindra Electric business unit. With the electric car scene picking pace, the company is planning to launch a multiple new all-electric cars in the Indian market. One of these upcoming electric cars will be the Mahindra XUV 300, details of which have recently surfaced on the Internet.

According to media reports, the Mahindra XUV 300 Electric has been internally codenamed S210. It is expected to draw power from a near 130 PS electric motor and offer a driving range of over 300 km in a single charge. To do this, the electric compact SUV will be fitted with a 40 kWh battery pack that will even support DC fast charging.

It is worth noting that the above specifications will likely be of the high-performance model of the XUV 300 electric. Dr. Pawan Goenka, Managing Director of Mahindra & Mahindra, had previously indicated that there will be two battery packs on offer in the S210 – one for the budget-inclined segment, while the other for customers who are looking for higher range.

Interestingly, the Mahindra XUV300 electric will become the first car in the country to use battery cells developed exclusively for India applications by LG Chem. The Korean battery manufacturer has partnered with Mahindra for the research and development of lithium ion battery technology.

Once launched, the higher range model of the Mahindra XUV 300 electric will compete against the Hyundai Kona electric. The Kona is already on sale in India and offers a range of 452 km on a single charge. Meanwhile, the budget-inclined variant of the XUV 300 electric will go head-on against the Tata Nexon electric, which is also currently in development.
