Lexus has confirmed that it will be unveiling a sub-compact SUV in the near future, which is expected to go on sale in the international markets by 2018. This upcoming SUV will be based on the UX concept that was showcased by the Japanese automaker at last year’s Paris Motor Show. Since the Indian automotive industry is clearly in love with compact and sub-compact SUVs and Lexus is all set to enter the country later this year, it won’t be a surprise if the UX concept makes it to India sometime next year.
If a report on an Australian publication is to be believed, the UX concept would definitely be put into production. This information was reportedly revealed through a statement from a senior Lexus official. This new product is being developed to cater to the rising craze for compact SUVs and crossovers across global markets. The company officials have also indicated that a production model of the UX ‘isn’t far away’. We thus expect to soon report international spotting of the Lexus UX’s test mules.
Deeper information about the production-spec Lexus UX SUV isn’t known as of now. However, it is expected to be based on Toyota’s New Global Architecture (TNGA), which made its debut last year under the new-gen Prius. This is also the same platform that underpins the C-HR crossover, which is also expected to make it to India sometime next year.
