Hyundai Aura – Name of the Xcent Sucesssor

Hyundai India has announced that it will launch a new compact sedan in the country in the coming months. This new model will be the successor of the Hyundai Xcent, which has been on sale in India for over 5 years. Sadly, Hyundai hasn’t revealed any more details about the new Aura sedan. However, the car has already been spotted testing on public roads, revealing a few details of the upcoming compact sedan.

The Hyundai Aura compact sedan is essentially a booted version of the Grand i10 Nios. As a result, it will borrow a lot of exterior and interior styling cues from the recently launched hatchback. The spy shots to reveal an identical front profile. It is worth noting that Hyundai has tried to make its new compact sedan look a lot more proportional and visually balanced as compared to the Xcent.

The interiors too will be similar to what we have seen on the Grand i10 Nios. However, we expect to see a dual-tone black and beige layout on the Hyundai Aura sedan, as compared to the all black theme seen on the Nios. Features on offer will include an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and wireless smartphone charging. There are rumours that the Aura might even get Hyundai’s new connected car tech – Bluelink. Though this technology is missing in the Grand i10 Nios, it is offered in the Venue compact SUV.

Powering the Hyundai Aura compact sedan will likely be BS-6 compliant versions of the 1.2-litre Kappa petrol and 1.2-litre U2 diesel engines that are seen on the Grand i10 Nios. Additionally, Hyundai is also expected to offer both manual and AMT automatic transmission options with the petrol and diesel versions of the Aura sedan.

Once launched, the Hyundai Aura will compete against the likes of the Maruti DZire, Tata Tigor, Honda Amaze, Volkswagen Ameo and Ford Aspire. It is worth noting that the current model Hyundai Xcent will continue to be on sale in the lower variants for the taxi market.
