Honda Insight Hybrid Sedan spied in India
The Honda Insight hybrid sedan has been spotted testing in India for the first time ever. The spied test mule has emission testing equipment installed at the rear. It is not yet clear whether Honda India plans to bring this hybrid sedan to the country, or is instead just testing its underlying hybrid technology in the Indian environment.
For people who haven’t heard about the Honda Insight, it is important to note that this sedan is Honda’s answer to the popular Toyota Prius. Interestingly, we had just recently reported about the discontinuation of sales of the Toyota Prius in India. It is thus quite ambitious on Honda’s part to try and bring the Insight to India, keeping in mind that the market hasn’t really embraced the concept of full hybrids.

Powering the Honda Insight is a 1.5-litre petrol engine that is aided by an electric motor. This combination is capable of putting out 150PS of power, while being mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT) gearbox.
Honda Cars India officials have repeatedly stressed on the company’s intention of launching an affordable hybrid car in India. Market speculations suggest that the next-gen Honda City will get a hybrid powertrain. There’s thus a possibility that Honda might use the Insight’s hybrid system in the new City.

The new-gen Honda City will likely launch in India sometime next year.
