The Ford Figo is an extremely value-for-money hatchback. However, it currently misses a petrol automatic transmission option. With automatics gaining popularity in the country, Ford has decided to remove this weakness of the Figo lineup by introducing an automatic gearbox option with the 1.2-litre petrol engine.
The automatic gearbox in question is a 6-speed unit that is also seen in the Ford Ecosport. It is worth noting that this is a torque converter unit. It will thus be more refined than the AMT one found in the Maruti Swift.
The Figo petrol is powered by a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder Dragon engine that churns out 96 PS. It is a fun-to-drive engine that comes with a very strong mid range and top end. However, one of the weaknesses of the Ford Figo is its power delivery deficit in lower rpm. However, with the new torque converter automatic, we expect this weakness to be eradicated as such a gearbox multiplies torque at lower speeds. As a result, the Figo petrol automatic will surely feel more responsive than its manual counterpart.
The new Ford Figo petrol automatic will launch in India in the last week of August 2020. It will likely be available in a select trims only. Prices of the Figo petrol automatic are expected to be pegged around Rs. 8 lakh (ex-showroom).
