The new Ford EcoSport facelift has been launched in India at prices starting from Rs 7.31 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Interestingly, these prices are more or less similar to that of the old model. Hence, Ford has managed to offer a more contemporary design, a new petrol engine and multiple added features, without the need to hike the prices. Kudos! The Ford EcoSport 2017 has been launched in 5 variants – Ambiente, Trend, Trend+, Titanium and Titanium+.
The 2017 model is essentially a mid-life facelift and thus continues to share its platform with the outgoing model. It comes with some cosmetic changes on the outside, most of which are concentrated at the front. These include a wider grille, larger headlamps with DRLs, bigger fog lamps and a new bumper. The side and rear profile are mostly the same, except a view nip and tucks. However, the biggest change is on the inside, with the new EcoSport coming with thoroughly updated dashboard layout and feature list.
Another important highlight of the updated model is a new 1.5-litre, three-cylinder DRAGON petrol engine that replaces the earlier model’s four-cylinder unit. This naturally aspirated engine offers a more lucrative combination of power and efficiency, as compared to the preceding engine. Meanwhile, the 1.5-litre turbo diesel and 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol have remained unchanged.
Additionally, the DCT automatic gearbox has now been given farewell. Instead, the new petrol engine can be opted with a more conventional torque converter unit that is cheaper to buy and maintain, especially in our driving conditions.

New Ford Ecosport 2017 Specifications
The 2017 Ecosport is not just a cosmetic mid-life update. It also gets a slew of new mechanical components, including a new petrol engine and a new automatic gearbox options. The new 1.5-litre DRAGON petrol engine under the new EcoSport replaces the earlier 1.5 petrol mill. Meanwhile, the diesel 1.5-litre, four-cylinder powerplant has been carried forward with no major changes. On the other hand, Ford has discontinued the 1.0-litre EcoBoost turbo petrol engine, owing to poor demand.

New Ford Ecosport 2017 Exterior changes
The front end features a wide gaping grille that is surrounded on both sides by new headlight assemblies. These new headlights are larger in size and will feature projector and LED Daytime Running Lamps (DRLs) on the top-end variant. The bumper too has been redesigned to house a flatter air dam and bigger fog lamps that are now placed a bit higher, as compared to the current model’s layout.
The side profile continues to be similar to the current model. The silhouette is completely identical, as there aren’t any sheet metal changes made to the car. However, the top-end trims will now come with new gunmetal alloy wheels.
The rear end features a new bumper, revamped taillights and a new cover for the tailgate-mounted spare wheel. While the international markets don’t get the fifth wheel on the tailgate, Ford has retained it on the Indian models. And we believe that the tailgate-mounted wheel is a vital part of the Ecosport’s SUV-ish character, something that makes it stand out from other cars in this segment.
