2018 Yamaha R15 V3 India – Everything you need to know!

The 2018 Yamaha R15 V3 has been launched in India. The updated model gets a major design overhaul and a more powerful engine. However, the India-spec model misses some important features, as compared to the international model. Available in a single variant, the new Yamaha R15 V3 has been priced at Rs. 1.25 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Yamaha had unveiled the version 3 R15 in Indonesia earlier last year. The bike is built on a new platform and gets completely redefined design language. The changes aren’t just limited to cosmetics, as the new R15 also comes with a re-engineered powertrain and updated chassis components.

The R15 brand name is still popular in the Indian motorcycle community. Hence, the company is planning to take advantage of this popularity to rope-in some sales numbers. However, the Japanese automaker also realises that India is a price sensitive market. Hence, the India-spec 2018 Yamaha R15  comes with some feature deductions, as compared to the model unveiled internationally. This has been done to keep prices competitive.

New Yamaha R15 V3 price in India

Yamaha has launched the new R15 V3 at a price of Rs. 1.25 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). It is available in a single variant for the time being. Interestingly, the Yamaha R15 V3 price in India is the same as that of its predecessor. Hence, Yamaha has managed to bring a major update for the entry-level sportsbike, without increasing the prices.

Yamaha R15 2018 specifications

Engine and performance

The new Yamaha R15 gets an updated 155 cc, single-cylinder fuel injected engine, mated to a 6-speed gearbox. This powertrain setup is capable of producing 19 bhp and 15 Nm of torque. Yamaha claims to have redesigned the entire engine block in order to enhance refinement and efficiency. As a result, it gets a new forged piston and a DiASil (Diecast Aluminium Silicon) cylinder.

Displacement155 cc
Power19 bhp @ 10,000 rpm
Torque15 Nm @ 8,500 rpm

Suspension and brakes

Internationally, the new Yamaha R15 gets upside down forks at the front and an adjustable monoshock at the rear. However, the India-spec model misses the USD forks and instead comes with conventional telescopic front suspension. This is one of the cost-cutting measures employed by Yamaha India. Moreover, the slipper clutch seen on international models is also expected to be given a miss for the Indian market.

Braking setup on the new Yamaha R15 in India includes 282 mm disc brakes at the front and 240 mm disc at the rear. Sadly, anti-lock braking system (ABS) has been given a miss on the new R15.

Yamaha R15 V3 top speed

The new Yamaha R15’s top speed is around 140 km/h. This makes it around 20 km/h faster than the v2 model. It is worth noting that we at Autosite India deeply discourage riders from trying to reach the top speed of a bike on any public road. Indian roads are full of surprises and thus riding rashly can be extremely dangerous.
