The 2018 Mahindra XUV500 petrol variant has been launched in India at a price of Rs 15.49 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). For the time being, the petrol model is being offered only with an automatic transmission option. Moreover, it available only in the G trim level of the car.
This is the first time that the XUV500 has been given a petrol engine option. The SUV has till now been offered only with diesel powerplants. However, with the demand for petrol engine options increasing in the country, Mahindra has decided to add the much-awaited petrol engine to the the SUV’s lineup.
The engine in question is a 2.2-litre, four-cylinder, mHawk petrol unit rated at 138 bhp and 320 Nm. Transmission duties are handled by an AISIN-sourced 6-speed automatic gearbox. This transmission setup also offers creep model and manual shift functionality. It is worth noting that the XUV500 petrol only comes with a front wheel drive layout. Thus, if you are looking for an all-wheel-drive SUV, the Mahindra XUV500 petrol still doesn’t enter your buying cart.
In the feature department, the XUV petrol doesn’t offer any additions over the diesel counterpart. The feature list on offer includes a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Android Auto, emergency calling, 8-way adjustable driver seat, cruise control and automatic climate control.
Occupant safety is taken care of by the presence of ABS (anti-lock braking system) with EBD (electronic brake force distribution), ESP (electronic stability program), rollover mitigation and dual airbags.
Mahindra and Mahindra has also revealed that it will be carefully monitoring demand of the XUV500 petrol variant. If there is significant customer interest, the company might launch the Scorpio petrol with the same engine. This launch is likely to take place sometime around mid-2018.
