Maruti Ignis Ownership Review

A big shout out to Arvind Kamath for sharing this detailed ownership review of his Maruti Suzuki Ignis with us. You too can share your user review, travelogue etc. on Autosite India by submitting it here.

I bought the Maruti Ignis on March 8, 2017 and have been driving it since then in Bangalore. With around 20 days of ownership, it is time to pen down a user review to give an insight of the ownership experience of Maruti’s latest hatchback. So here’s my brief ownership review of my 2017 Maruti Suzuki Ignis Zeta petrol.

Maruti Ignis delivery experience

Things I Love

  • Very easy to maneuver, even in a city like Bangalore which is known for its dense traffic
  • Great legroom. Headroom is also best in class, thanks to its tall boy look
  • Nice luggage space. 60:40 rear split allows superb flexibility
  • Respectable ground clearance. Haven’t scrapped the underbelly even on large speed breakers
  • Superb high-speed stability. The car can stay planted even at speeds of up to 120 km/h

Things I Don’t Like

  • I personally don’t like the black colour of the alloys. Silver finish would have worked brilliantly to enhance the car’s stance
  • The area behind the rear door, with the Suzuki triad design, sticks out like a sore thumb. Could have been designed better
  • The glovebox is not spacious enough to be practical

Why did I buy the Maruti Ignis Zeta?

I was looking for a compact car that is easy to drive in congested cities, especially since I live in Bangalore (now called Bengaluru). Another major requirement was it to be fuel efficient. Who doesn’t like their cars to be economical, especially at a time when fuel prices are soaring high. Since my running isn’t huge and the difference between petrol and diesel is coming down, I decided to go for the petrol Zeta model. Frankly, I didn’t look for any other options in this segment and price bracket. I have always been a Maruti loyalist and have owned 4 products from the automaker since 1988. These include the 800, 1000, Zen and the SX4. Hence, when it came down to the fifth car, it was obviously going to be the Ignis.

Maruti Ignis – Ownership Review & User Experience

In the short span of time that I have owned the Maruti Ignis, I have been completely happy from the car. The Ignis petrol gets a 1.2-litre, four cylinder petrol engine that churns out 83 BHP and 115 Nm of torque. This engine is potent enough to offer great driveability and pickup. The car is also very stable on high speeds, up to 120 km/h. The only grouse I have with the car is that Maruti could have offered a few more accessories and features, especially at this price point.

Mileage – Kitna Deti Hai?

  • City – 9 km/l
  • Highway – 15 km/l

Since my Ignis has done just 200 kilometers yet and is currently in the running-in period, I expect the aforementioned mileage figures to rise, especially after the first and second service.
