New Maruti S-Cross 2017 facelift India launch around Diwali

Maruti Suzuki will launch the 2017 S-Cross facelift in India around this year’s festive season. This means that an official launch of the Maruti S-Cross 2017 can be expected in the period from September to November 2017. This scheduled launch has been confirmed by none other than the company’s Executive Director – CV Raman.

The S-Cross was first launched in India in the year 2015. It also marked the introduction of Maruti’s new premium dealership chain – Nexa. However, the S-Cross didn’t manage to bring in significant sales for the carmaker right away. There were many reasons behind the crossover’s failure in the Indian market. But, the most important factor that negatively affected the S-Cross sales in India was its price. As a result, Maruti soon realised that the launch prices were a bit too high to pose a potent threat to its rivals. Hence, prices were reduced in the range of Rs. 40,000 to Rs. 1.9 lakh.

The said price drop helped the S-Cross to regain some sales figures. As a result, Maruti currently sells around 2,000 units of the crossover every month.

However, since it is already two years old and the crossover scene is lit in the country, Maruti decided to bring in a mid-life update. This will help the carmaker to freshen the overall package and thus boost the crossover’s sales figures even further.

Maruti S-Cross 2017 facelift expected price in India

The changes made on the upcoming S-Cross facelift will likely be limited to cosmetic tweaks. Hence, we don’t expect Maruti to change prices of the crossover by a huge margin. Additionally, the automaker has already suffered poor sales of the S-Cross due to a higher price. As a result, it is highly unlikely that the company will repeat its mistake all over again.

New Maruti S-Cross 2017 facelift Specifications

Maruti Suzuki isn’t likely to make any change in the diesel engine options present in the S-Cross. As a result, the facelifted crossover will continue to be powered by 1.3-litre and 1.6-litre diesel mills.

However, Maruti might add a new petrol engine option to the line-up. This will be done to cap on the growing number of customers that prefer petrol engines. However, it isn’t yet known which petrol power plant will be offered in the S-Cross 2017. Probable options include the 1.4-litre unit from the Ciaz and the 1.0-litre turbocharged mill from the recently launched Maruti Baleno RS.

2017 Maruti S-Cross facelift design changes

The S-Cross facelift has already been revealed in international markets. Hence, we have a fair idea about the potential changes that will be made to the India-spec model. The front fascia will get a new grille with a thick chrome border and vertical slats. The headlamps will be all new units with LED projectors and DRLs. Moreover, the front and rear bumpers will be tweaked to make them slightly more rugged. The alloy wheels too will be completely new units. Further, Maruti Suzuki might also add a few new colours to the S-Cross facelift to enliven its appeal.
