Hyundai has launched a Sports edition variant of the Eon in India. It gets some cosmetic tweaks, a few feature additions but no mechanical changes. The Sports Edition is based on the Era+ and Magna+ variants. Prices of the Hyundai Eon Sports Era+ are around Rs. 16,000 costlier than the regular model, while the Magna+ Sports variant is costlier by around Rs. 10,000 (ex-showroom, Delhi).
The Eon Sports variants come with a new 6.2-inch touchscreen music system with two speakers bolted on to the front doors. This feature addition appears to be Hyundai’s response to the Renault Kwid, which also comes with a touchscreen infotainment system. However, while the Kwid gets reverse camera and navigation as well, Hyundai misses these two features. Instead, it comes with phone link compatibility, that can mirror your phone’s screen on to the music system’s head unit. This can then be used to source navigation from your phone’s Google Maps on the touchscreen. For this to work, you need internet connection on your mobile device.
There are a few cosmetic tweaks made to the exteriors of the car as well. The Eon Sports variants comes with prominent silver roof rails and new body moulding graphics on the doors. Other than this, all other features remain identical to the regular variants. We would have been really happy if Hyundai would have offered a set of alloy wheels with the Sports Edition Eon hatch.
